Aromatherapy diffuser is simply a method of spreading the aroma and the beneficial molecules from essential oils over a large area, such as a room or a house.

There are several ways of diffusing the essential oils. Some of the natural, non electrical ways include blending them with warm water, heating them up, diluting them into other oils or letting something, such as a dried grass absorb the oil.

Although the natural diffusers are popular, they are not always so effective, especially in larger rooms. The second method is the use of electrical device, which diffuses the essential oil with the help of water vapor.

Warm Water Diffuser

This is commonly What is an aromatherapy diffuserused diffusing method by the massage therapists. A bowl of warm water is placed by the massage table, or under the massage table with a whole for the face if the customer is placed on their stomach.

Few drops of essential oils are places in hot water and the vapor will diffuse the aroma into the near vicinity.

Pros: Beautiful and cheap.

Cons: Only works until the water cools down. Very limited range.

Pros: Cheap and easy to use.

Cons: Since pure essential oils are used, the aroma can be very over powering. Works for one room. The oils are used up rather quickly since the container is always open.

Electrical Diffuser

There are several different infuser types working with the help of electricity. Most popular ones are:

Electric Socket Diffuser

efusion diffuser

This type of diffuser is connected directly into the socket and contains an essential oil container, or a pad which is infused with essential oils. It diffuses the aroma into the room and can contain a timer.

My Loving Advice

I purchased 3 of the quality aromatherapy pad diffuser 2 years ago, one for my atelier, one for my house and one for my yoga and ayurveda practice and haven’t regretted it one single day despite its ugly looks. It’s extremely effective, helping me to keep my house, which includes pets, children, my art atelier,  yoga and ayurveda practice fragrant and disease free.

I also have 2 of the nebulizing diffusers, one of them custom made! It looks absolutely wonderful and fills my office with wonderful ambiance. It has also been a favorite of mine to give as a gift for my family and friends the recent years.

It also gives me a simple but effective way of influencing everyone’s moods by varying the essential oils and the intensity of the aromas. I also use it in my yoga and my art studio for enhancing the performance and creativity.

My favorite scents for creativity are sandalwood, cedar wood, frankincense. For yoga I prefer lavender, chamomile and bergamot. When the kids are sick, I use peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary!

I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the wonderful benefits of aromatherapy with minimal hassle for the maximum advantages.

Why Make New Years Resolutions We Can’t Keep?

New year is upon us once again and many of us are going to make resolutions! You might be asking yourself why make new years resolutions again this year, if I fail like usually? My article will help you to make a promise which you are able to keep and be on your way to self-improvement!

The year is ending and most of us are making resolutions for different reasons. I will take you through the process and let you into the secret of my own resolution. I would also love to hear yours, so be sure to leave me a comment!

Reasons To Make Resolutions

Why should you make a resolution you might ask? There are many reasons to do so, you might have  completely different personal ones, but I will introduce you to the most common reasons people state.

It’s a tradition in many places around the word to make a promise on new year. It’s mostly due to the fact that when the year is drawing to the end, we often take some time to reflect our lives.

Of course it would be possible to do this at any time of the year, unfortunately a lot of people miss the drive for improvement as they fail to identify the deep rooted reason or need for their resolution in the first place.

The chance of the year is seen to help you leave behind the past with all its troubles and sorrows behind and start over. It can also be combined with a wish, such as hoping someone else will overcome their problems and have a great start for the new year.

Many people see the new year as an opportunity to motivate themselves with something they have been struggling with the previous year, such as loosing weight or learning a new skill.

These are the most difficult resolutions to stick with and I will be talking about ways to improve your chances about succeeding in the Sticking With Your Resolutions section.

Some people make a new years resolution simply because they are inspired by someone else. For instance if your partner decides to quit smoking, you have an incredible opportunity to follow in his footsteps.

No Smoking Sign

It’s easier to make resolutions that are difficult to stick to together as you can support each other and follow up on each others progress. Just make sure you also commit and don’t start leading each other to temptation instead!

Many people make a resolution together with other people. For instance the whole school class commits for better results in math or a whole family decides to spend more time together.

This kind of resolution is the easiest to succeed as you will be working together towards a success. It’s not so dependant on individual efforts, but about motivating the whole group to succeeding!

Making Your Resolutions

Sit down and reflect about your life. Is there something you would like to improve? Write down the areas of self or group improvement that come to your mind.

Next examine your reasons for making a particular decision, such as stop smoking because it will improve their health. It will help to write the reason down as well. It will work as a motivator when you need reasons to stick with your resolution!

Discussing them with others might help, as they might have ideas of which areas of your persona or life need improvement. Make sure that you are ready for honest feedback though, it might not be easy to hear what others have to say.

Once you have your ideas, consider which would give you most value at this particular time. Basically this means that you should pick one or two that you like most, trust your gut feeling on this!

Don’t be tempted to make too many promises as this will only backfire as you will get mentally exhausted and feel pressure even before you start with your goals. Don’t worry, you can safe those for the years to come!

Before your make your resolution it’s important to consider the following things that will ensure you can stick with your resolution.

Make Specific Goals

Don’t make lofty promises, such as ‘I will loose some weight next year’ or ‘I will exercise more’. Instead make a specific goal, such as ‘I will drop two dress sizes by next summer holidays’, or ‘I will exercise 3 time a week’

Exercise and diet

Making specific goals allows you to measure your success more easily and this will help to keep you motivated along the way! A good friend on mine, who goes to the same cancer clinic than me, made a resolution to try out my meditation for pain-relief program to replace his opiates.

Ensure Your Goal is Achievable

Do not define goals you know in advance you are not able to achieve as this will be demotivating. Keep them realistic enough for you to feel the urge to work towards them.

For instance promising that you will complete a marathon under 4 hours might not be the best promise to make if you spend most of your life on the couch. Instead promise to yourself to complete the couch to 5k program!

Define Steps

Make sure to define steps or check points, so you can easily follow up on your progress. Make sure the steps are not overwhelmingly difficult to obtain. If your exceed your goals, there is reason to celebrate! For instance if your resolution was a weight loss: I will loose 2kg every month.

Sticking With Your Resolution

So you have selected your resolution, congratulation! You are on your way to improving your life! The most important thing now is to ensure you will be able to stick to your resolution and achieve your goals!

There are several techniques to ensure you won’t give up before even getting started. Lets examine them closer.

Write Down Your Goals

Write down your goals and the steps you broken your task down to. Place the paper somewhere where you can easily see it every day, as it will remind you of your promise. Keep a pen nearby, so you can tick each step after you reach it!

Some people like printing a spreadsheet style list with couple of columns, such as:

GoalLoose 10kg by summer holidaysDate
Step 1loose 2kg by 31.01
Step 1loose 2kg by 28.02

They can then fill in the date they achieved their steps or mini goals, which is extremely motivates. If you are part of a group pack, make sure you use a format, which allows both individual and group goals.

Write down your goals

Make sure that you agree among each other if everyone wants their results published, some people might feel sensitive about this, but in general it often encourages people to compete against each other.

You might even make bets or arrange a competition! Just make sure to keep it friendly, so nobody gives up because they feel like a looser.

Seek External Accountability

Make sure people know about your resolution. It’s surprisingly easy to cheat oneself, hence it’s much easier to stick to your resolution, if others know about your decision to give up smoking!

Tell your nearest and dearest, post it on social media, talk about it at work and write it down in your diary or blog. Once others know, it’s not so easy to back down on your word as you need to explain to others why you broke your promise to yourself.

Seek Support

Depending on your goal, support might be extremely important. For instance if you have decided to learn a new language next year support is not as crucial as in the case of loosing weight, stopping smoking or getting better school results!

You might ask someone close to you, partner, friend, teacher, parent or if you prefer someone who doesn’t know you personally, seek a support group on social media or forums, such as Quit Smoking Support Group of Facebook. There are plenty available for any possible self improvement topic, Google will show you the way!

Once you have your support person or a group, make sure to keep them up to date on your progress and ask them to keep on checking on your.  If you are struggling let them know!

Reward Yourself

Make sure to reward yourself in meaningful ways for each mini goal you made. If your goal was to loose weight, using food as a reward might not be the best option, but instead treat yourself to some new clothes when you reach your goals and maybe some accessories or massage or haircut along the way.

Reach your goals

Group reward might be some fun activity, such as taking the whole class ice skating or family night out in the movies or the bowling hall. Be creative and ensure everyone has their say!

Once you reach your goal, make sure your results are known. You have every reason to be proud of yourself, you have done a fantastic job,  this is your moment to shine!

Happy New Year!

FireworksSo remember when the fireworks start, you have the chance to start all over! It is up to you to learn about your mistakes and turn a new page with the experiences under our belt. Nothing lasts forever, not even bad luck or emotional rut! Happiness is just around the corner.

And if your year was a great one,  why not make the next one even greater? There is always something to improve, the human nature is searching for perfection after all. If you need inspiration, take a look at my post about What Is Positive Thinking About – Sattvic Mind

My very own goal this year is to beat my cancer! I will define my mini goals the next few weeks and write a post about it. What kind of promise are you making for the new year?

What Is Christmas Spirit About

You among many others might be wondering what is Christmas spirit about? It seems that there are so many people today only concentrate on the gifts, food and fighting to whom Christmas celebration actually belongs to.

There has been so much arguing about Christmas the last years. The weeks heading up for Christmas are really getting on my nerves. People are slacking off each other,  sharing memes such as this:

Christmas meme

It has become politically incorrect to say merry Christmas, because not everyone celebrates this holiday and at the same time it has become the Christians way of waving a card in front of others saying: Christmas is my holiday, not yours.

But let’s examine the celebration of Christmas closer for a moment. How did Christmas come to be? What is the message of Christmas and what is Christmas spirit about?

What Is The History Of Christmas?

Before Christmas day 25th of December become a celebration of Jesus’ birthday around 273 AD, it already had a long tradition in Europe, with it’s own traditions and customs.

Yule Man

Why was this particular day selected? Well, the early Christians wanted to eradicate the old religions in the places they converted into Christianity and one of the way doing so, was taking an old celebration and simply giving it a new meaning. There is no evidence to indicate that Jesus was actually in fact born on this particular day.

Yule, was a 12 day celebration for the winter solstice, day when the days start to get longer, before it became the Christian Christmas.

Yule man is still known in some of the Nordic countries and he was the feared spirit of the forest, Odin or some other God depending on the local tradition. He was the  bearer of the gifts, riding on a goat.

Christmas was long time celebrated as a drunken festival, which was based on eating and drinking alcohol. In fact it was so unchristian that is was banned in US and England in the 17th century  by the puritans. Only during the 19th century did Christmas once again become a popular celebration.

However some pagan traditions stayed and they have not much to do with Jesus’ birth, although some are linked to early Christianity.

Christmas Food

As with any celebration, it’s traditional to have plenty of food and drink available. Food varies from country to country and region to region, but remains more rich and varied that food enjoyed at other times throughout the year.

Christmas Tree

The modern Christmas tree is traced to Germany, where Tannenbaum was brought into the house as part of the Lutheran Christmas tradition around the 16th century. It was decorated with edible things such as apples, gingerbread and toffee.

It is often thought that the Christmas tree had it’s traditions in the winter rites, as both the Vikings and Saxon worshiped trees, especially the ever greens, which never lost their green color during the winter months.

Santa Claus and Presents

Saint Nicholas

Santa Claus is modeled after a Spanish or Turkish bishop, depending on the legend, turned into catholic saint Saint Nicholas, who was famous for giving gifts and sweets to children.  In a lot of countries Saint Nicholas is celebrated on the 6th of December and this is the day children will receive their gifts.

In other countries Santa Claus, who variably lives on the Polar Pole or in Finnish Lapland, has replaced this tradition, and he bears the presents either on 24th of 25th depending on the local tradition.

In the Nordic countries the whole Christmas still carries the name yul, or jul, indicating it’s origins in the pagan customs. Additionally the Saint Nicholas tradition never took off and the Santa Claus is still called with the name of Yule man (Christmas man).

Yule Log

In France you still enjoy a traditional bakery during the Christmas called Yule Log (Christmas log), in other countries this is a particular log of wood, burned in the fire place for the Christmas celebrations.

What Is The Message Of Christmas?

According to the Christian religion, Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ the savior. He was born to Maria and Josef, in a barn in Nasareth on Christmas eve. This birth was marked by a Christmas star and everything was witnessed by angels and herders.

Jesus and Maria

Three wise men followed the star and visited Jesus and his parents bearing gifts. This what it says in the Bible, the holy book of Christians. And this is why Christians say they exchange gifts, in some countries gifts are exclusive traded on three kings day.

The same message is repeated in some forms in the corresponding holy books of various other religions. Muslims and Latter Day Saints also recognize Christmas as the birth day of Jesus.

What does this teach us about the message of Christmas? According to the Bible, Jesus was born, because God loved us so much, he sent his only son to Earth, so we could find forgiveness and peace for our sins. He gave us the ultimate gift on Christmas.

Does this means we should fight among each other about who Christmas belongs to? I don’t think so. I always thought the message of Christmas was that of hope, faith and pure, unconditional love!

Hope Love Faith

What Is The Christmas Spirit About?

We can donate or we can help by sharing the information about what is really happening in the world and donating money where it is really needed? Wouldn’t this display the spirit of Christmas better?

How about instead we started sharing pictures and memes on social media depicting the faces of children that go hungry, so we start to think how important it is to redistribute the food resources on this planet more evenly.

I don’t only mean the children in Africa or Asia or war ridden countries, but even in your own communities. There are children who’s growth and learning is inhibited by lack of nutrition.

Give food to children, they are our hope for future. Here is a good place to start: Unicef

Feed The Hungry

How about helping the Sioux tribe, who are bravely fighting in the middle of snowstorms for the right of clean water for their tribe and millions of other people living in the downstream of a river, which is about to be polluted by the Dakota Access Pipeline?

Or in general taking a stand on any of the environmental issues, this planet is facing? I have written an article about everything that is near to my heart, you can read it here: How To Protect Earth

Defend The Sacret

One of the most important things that comes to my mind, are all the people suffering in the war zones. They homes are being destroyed and they have nowhere to go. Nobody wants more refugees, because of inherit problems with clashing of Western and Eastern cultures.

The children who lost their parents, the people who lost their homes, the hospitals that are out of supplies and markets that are empty of food and warm clothing for the winter. Schools that have no more teachers and materials. How about we send them the spirit of Christmas to help out what we can? Unicef Emergencies – Syria

Syrian Children

For me this is what Christmas spirit is truly about! Not fighting amongst ourselves whether Christmas is only a Christian holiday and others shouldn’t celebrate it, or worrying about offending someone how we send them greetings during this special time.

Christ In Christmas

How about instead of sending memes like this, indicating we are somehow better than others and more entitled to the message of Christmas than others, because of our faith. we truly send the spirit of Christmas around the world:

Peace on Earth, Love, Understanding and  Compassion!

Christmas should be full of warmth, laughter, happiness and joy. It should be time for giving and serving, time of remembering those who suffer in silence and help those in need of your assistance.

Here is a good start, listen to it and think about it. I hope you will find it in your heart to agree with me and send the Christmas spirit to everyone despite their religion!

One of the traditions I keep onto at Christmas is to make a wish to the Christmas star. This Christmas my wish is that you find it in yourselves to stop fighting and find a way to peace:

Go and make someone happy this Christmas!

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let me know your favorite place or cause to send some spirit of Christmas to!

Love and Christmas Spirit,

What Is The Definition Of a True Friendship?

Have you ever reflected what is the definition of a true friendship? To find the answer, all we need to do is to look at the people we have shared a part of our journey with. This story is dedicated to all my friends, may they find as much happiness in life, as they have brought into mine.

Hands Forming a Heart

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.”

― William Shakespeare

Childhood Friends

I knew you as a child, you were my best friend. Nothing could tear us apart. We got in trouble together and we climbed trees together.  You cover up for me and I told white lies in your defence.

We started school together, learned to swim and went on summer camps. Over the year we lost the touch, one of us moved away and the other stayed.

We lost touch, but when we get together by faith, it’s like the distance and time apart never happen. We still love each other as much as all those years ago.

Young Friends

You shared all my dreams when I grew up, you shared my growing pains in those years when I turned from a little girl to a woman. We supported each other through the heartaches of the first love.

You knew how I was looking for my place in this world and you helped me to find where I belonged. I thought you how to put up your hair and you were the first one to put lipstick on my lips.

Travel Buddies

I met you some where for few fleeting days. We met on top of mountain, in the desert, in the jungle, on cattle class in a plane, deck of a ship, at the train platform.

We talked about everything and nothing. We shared food, drinks, the little money we had, pictures, diaries, hotel rooms, cabins and cold ground in front of the blazing fire.

We instantly felt an attraction towards each other, we knew we were two parts of the same story, we were soul mates. Our paths separated as we were both vagabonds and we never met again, but we stayed in each others hearts.

Coffee Break

We worked together on a project on in the same team. Or maybe I was your superior or you mine? Our friendship started out with frustrations regarding to customers, managers, work loads and trying to balance our lives with work pressure!

We sat together in the coffee room, sometimes in silence, just happy for a moment of peace, sometimes excited to tell something about kids or success with our careers.

We traveled together to expos, conferences and customers, stealing a moment here and there to do some sightseeing and shopping. In the evening we joined forces to enjoy local entertainment and cuisine.

Social Media

I met you online and I never have never seen you face to face,  but you know so much about me and I you. I watched your children grow up and you saw me find happiness.

You have shared my joys and I celebrated your life. I have cried bitter tears for you and you have comforted me in me sorrows and given me support when I felt nobody else cared.

Family Of Monkeys

We were born into the same family.  You were my sister, my brother, mother, father, grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin, my child. I didn’t have a choice in the matter and nor did you, not that we would have wanted it any other way.

We became friends because we spent all that time together. We fought, we hated, we loved and we shared. We chose each other over and over every single day. It was us, standing together against the world and it still is.

One day you showed up in my life. It was faith and knew instantly I could never again let you go. You instantly became part of my life and me yours. We keep in touch, if not every day but as often as we can.

We write, we call, we visit and we enjoy each others company. We do things together or just sit next to each other without saying a word. You are the one I run to when I need to share my joy and your are my strength when I need a shoulder to cry on.

I made you up! Yup, you are my imaginary friend, who only exist in my head. I have known you all my life! You are my very best friend.

I tell you all my secrets, the ones I dare trust nobody else! You always listen, never complain or judge, instead you always give me great advice 😉

You might be like me

You might be my exact opposite

We might be crazy together

You might balance me out

But I want you to know that I love you

I am happy for the day you walked into my life

Thank you for being part of my journey!
